Research shows that just as adverse experiences can cause a vast array of problems later on in life, positive experiences create resilience to those problems. (Resilience in Children: Developmental Perspectives Ann S Masten 1,*, Andrew J Barnes 2 )
The PLAN sets the stage for all children to have the opportunity to create that resilience.
Our goal, at early childhood rocks, is to unite parents and teachers in the common goal of high quality care and education for all children. This is not currently happening in the United States.
Here are some facts to think about.
22.5 million children between 2-5 in 2022 reside in the US.
60% of children under the age of 5 (13.5 mil) use some form of childcare.
10% of that childcare is considered high quality.
1.3 mil children are in high quality care.
That leaves 12.2 million children between the ages of 0-5 in mediocre-poor quality care. That's well over 1/2 of the children under the age of 5 that reside in the US. The sad fact is that families are paying a lot for that low quality of care.
The PLAN early care and education can only happen in high quality environments. Here's an article to help people identify quality in early childhood education. What else can you do?
